News from RECLAIMING VITALITY and an Award.

Eric Hoffer Award Finalist For 2025

Firstly, just a few days ago I was lucky enough to be interviewed on the Heart Led Money podcast with Russ Dunnuck, which is launching on youtube on Monday September 1, 2025. Please share this interview with your friends to help build this exciting new channel.

Russ is passionate about helping people to do what they love with their money. He asked me to join him in launching his podcast after I was a client with his private coaching business last year in the lead up to publishing my book. Russ asked to interview me about my shift into being an IST Practitioner away from being a financial journalist, which included moving to the USA. He also wanted to know the story of how, after 20 years, I finally completed and published the book Reclaiming Vitality: A Healing Journey Through Chronic Fatigue and Burnout.

I love being interviewed on podcasts by the way, so if anyone knows someone with a cool podcast who would like to interview me, please send them my way, thank you!

About Writing

Incidentally, Russ was instrumental in the decision to finally publish the book, because I had cold feet about taking that last step to publish, even after I had been through the process of writing and editing the book (which took 20 years in total, but 3 years in the final run). I was feeling resistant about publishing because the investment with a self publishing company (Paper Raven Publishing) was a big one for me at the time. I just could not make sense of spending that money all in one go for a book that probably would not recoup the costs in sales.

But when Russ coached me through the fear, it was just clear, that this was a big dream and I had to take the step across the finish line to get it out there. Even though it felt risky.

I had wanted to write a book since I was 10 years old. I had never considered myself a good enough writer. Even after being a professional financial journalist for 12 years, being published in newspapers around Australia and in the UK. Nor after completing my Masters of Arts (writing) and getting over 90 percent in my masters thesis.

I clearly remember thinking when I was at university in Perth, Western Australia that to really write, I had to become more worldly in order to have something good to say. It made sense then to travel the world, living in four different continents and seven different cities.

Although I had the first inspiration for this project in 2004, the book was not published until October 2025. It took me three attempts to write the final draft before I was ready to publish this book. I did not know it when the idea first came to me, but in preparation for this to come to the world, I had a lot of work to do on myself, and thousands of private sessions to give to clients from around the globe.

When the idea to write this book first came to me, I was meditating for three weeks in a small hut in the bush in Australia just 3.5 hours from Sydney. The idea was to share with others who had CFS, burnout and now long COVID, about how it is possible to recover using an energetic pathway. Specifically it was about the understanding of subtle bodies, which was so key to my own recovery and fundamental to the work of Samuel Sagan MD.

Sagan, the founder of the Clairvision School of meditation put together a whole body of work about subtle bodies, and a set of techniques that are primarily for someone on an advanced path of spiritual transformation. These methods can also be used to help someone with this category of illnesses. In my experience this is a unique system in the way it teaches people how to genuinely cultivate their own vitality and fortitude in such a way that they can recover fully from CFS, burnout or long COVID. Anyway, you can read a lot more about it in my book here.

Completing such a long-held project was a gargantuan (tremendous sized) experience. I say this tongue in cheek, because although I knew it was big, the feelings that emerged after having completed that challenge were unexpected for me. To complete something that I had previously had a lot of resistance around and placed in the “not for me” basket, was much more deconstructing to my identity than I had anticipated. I could no longer think of myself as that person who could admire others and dream big, unconsciously believing it was “not for me”. And even the well worn internal fight to disprove that belief of “not for me”, no longer had any energy. I was left empty for a few months.

Digesting all of this was part of the reason it took me a while to get back to you all.

The other reason it took me a while to write you all was that one of my dearest loved ones has been in a health crisis of some magnitude and we have been going through this together.

So perhaps the lesson here is that even when you do something gargantuan, life just happens and you have to turn and face what is there.  It reminds me of the Zen saying:

“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”

In this case my shift in self perception and the ensuing life circumstances brought me closer to a deeper love than I ever knew possible.

That is 2025 for me so far!

Companion Book

At the time when I was first inspired with the book idea, I was working closely with Samuel Sagan MD and practicing the meditation techniques of the Clairvision School which he founded. Which is why, for those who are also seeking to recover, I do want to recommend you purchase Sagan’s book Awakening The Third Eye alongside Reclaiming Vitality: A Healing Journey Through Chronic Fatigue and Burnout for the purpose of recovery from one of these health conditions (after you have consulted all the correct medical practitioners and had all the tests of course). This book contains so many of the techniques that are referred to in my work, and is the source of what I do.

US Review Of Books

Quite a few surprises continued to unfold for Reclaiming Vitality: A Healing Journey Through Chronic Fatigue and Burnout, through the first part of this year, including a lovely review of the book by Barbara Bamberger Scott in The US Review of Books.

Bamberger Scott pulled out a gorgeous quote form the book which I really appreciated because it is extremely difficult to see one’s own writing with objectivity:

“The journey of spiritual transformation is one of getting to know and embrace all parts of ourselves.”

Eric Hoffer Award Finalist 2025

Another astonishing win was receiving notification of the lovely gold star sticker pictured at the beginning of this article, awarding Reclaiming Vitality: A Healing Journey Through Chronic Fatigue an Eric Hoffer Award Finalist for 2025. This means the book is in the top 10 per cent of entrants for this award for independent books in the USA. (Is it like a sixth place ribbon? I don’t know, but it sure felt good anyway and definitely motivated me to want to continue improving my writing skills so I can get a first place ribbon one day.)

Seriously though, I was blown away by that honor and super happy. It really is always nice to receive some kind of recognition of the work that went into the publication of this book in the first place. It continues to bring me a lot of gratitude for all the people that have helped this project come to its fruition, and continue to support it to shine.

Another Podcast Interview For You

Also I would like to give a quick shout out to Raelan Aegle, who interviewed me earlier in the year on her podcast about recovery from CFS and Long Covid. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2RY-qjsaTc

(This is a great resource by the way for anyone struggling with recovery because Raelan has so many great interviews with people who have recovered as well as many experts in the field.)

Short Fun Video

To bring some joy as part of this free kindle book promotion with Heart Led Money my partner Dr Karl Debro and I created this short video (10 seconds) in Lassen Volcanic National Park, caught in a flash thunderstorm including lightning very close above and hail! So enlivening. So fun. And awakening. That park is truly a wonder, I highly recommend it to everyone. It’s a hidden gem for sure. Take a look and have a laugh!

Where To From Here – The Audible

And finally as I have quietly shared on social media, my next step in this process is to create the audible for the book. You can imagine me sitting in my honey’s wardrobe doing this for the next couple of months, because that is where I will be! I am hoping to have this done by Thanksgiving, if only to come out of the wardrobe and share a good meal with friends and family. Ok I am trying to think of some good jokes referring to C.S Lewis’s masterpiece The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, but none coming. Although I do think it is safe to say that this will be a magical experience. You can only imagine!
